You do not need to hunt for films with unexpected plot twists. Real life can also be unpredictable at times. And we can’t help but wonder whether our lives are a movie. Here are a few stories similar to this.
Story 1
My future husband and I resided in the same building, but on different levels. Then fate brought us together. We had a turbulent romance.
And one lovely evening, after a year of dating, I posed a purely female question: “Honey, why did you fall in love with me?” He answered, “Well, you live close by.” I was very angry with him that night, but I no longer ask such questions. © Chamber 6 / VK
Story 2
I was in a toy shop the other day, looking for a toy car to give to my nephew. In the doll area, where I went to fantasize about what I didn’t have as a child, I overheard a conversation.
A little girl asked her mother to buy her a doll’s house, saying, “Mom, please, it has everything — a washing machine, a kitchen, a bathroom, and even 3 beds!” And the woman said, “Diana, we had a deal, remember? 3 or more digits on the price tag means it’s not for sale.” © Chamber 6 / VK
Story 3
I recently discovered a phone in the street. I carried it with me to return it to the owner in case they looked for it and called. When I came home, I put my phone on charge and waited for a call.
In the evening, the contact “Honey” called. I joyfully picked up the phone and announced that I had it. The girl responded claiming it was her boyfriend’s phone and requested me to throw it out the window.
I was perplexed and inquired whether she was joking. And the girl said her boyfriend cheated on her. I hung up and began waiting for a call from someone else. © Chamber 6 / VK
Story 4
My clothing style has always been sporty. But for the thesis defense, a buddy and my mother encouraged me to acquire pumps to match my trouser suit. I got them and decided to stroll around wearing them.
And on my way out of the mall, I stumbled on the wet porch and landed on a man. He sprained his left leg, while I sprained my right. This is how our romance started in the ER seven years ago. And it would have been a charming episode if it hadn’t occurred again a year ago.
We broke up; things appeared to be headed for divo:rce, and we hadn’t even lived together for a month. However, we met on the porch of the same shopping mall where he stumbled and fell on me. Story 5
One day, I went shopping and took a taxi. The driver was a redheaded man. When we drew up to my house and I opened the door, my red dog raced up to me.
I responded: “Well, ginger, are you going to help me carry the bags?” I got out of the car and noticed the taxi driver standing there, holding my bags. I had to explain: “I was talking to the dog, not you.” It was awkward. © Chamber 6 / VK
Story 6
I was sitting in the kitchen after work, drinking tea and quietly listening to my spouse. He told me a story about going to the supermarket.
He couldn’t find his black T-shirt, but he eventually discovered it. He couldn’t start the car at first, but he eventually did. How there was always a red light on the road, and then he got lucky and there was only one green light for over a mile. How he couldn’t find a sausage but then found one. He was insulted by a saleswoman, but he neatly put her in her place, and then he was driving home while listening to jokes on the radio.
There was nothing intriguing about the narrative, but he was telling it so long and in such detail that it seemed like he was retelling Star Wars rather than how he went to the store. That’s when I realized: if I don’t end this right now, I’ll have to listen to this garbage for the rest of my life. We divo:rced a month later, and I’ve never regretted it. © Chamber 6 / VK
Story 7
My entire life, I teased my younger sister about how different she looked from me and our father. I used to make “you’re adopted” jokes about her and whatnot. It became an internal joke between us: when I told her we found her on the porch, she’d respond, “Thank God, that means I’m not actually related to you.” My parents worried because it was “mean,” but my sister could take a joke and realized I was simply teasing her; she even joked about it.
I found out a few years back that she was the result of a brief affair. My father welcomed her as his own, and my parents kept it hidden from everyone. They informed her last year. I still make “maybe you’re adopted” jokes about her, but they’re a hundred times more entertaining today. © ae____ / Reddit
Story 8
I’m two months pregnant. My husband and I felt it was time to inform our daughter that she would be having a sibling shortly. Lisa is a 10-year-old child who is affectionate and gentle. We adored and indulged her, and she was always the center of our attention.
We say all of this to her, expecting either excitement or astonishment. But her face twists with rage, and she yells, “No, I don’t want to!” It was a real sh0ck. We try to calm her down and explain how wonderful it will be, and she says, “I want to be the only child in the family! Do something about it, bring this child back! I don’t want it!”
Then she cried, and now she sits in her room, refusing to speak to us. I’m so bewildered that I don’t know what to do. And here is how people have reacted to my pregnancy so far. I’m now afraid of what will happen when the baby is born. © Mamdarinka / VK
Story 9
I finished law school and got engaged to the girl I had been with since university. We applied to the same graduate program and ended up working in the same office in Canberra. Three months before our wedding, I discovered she was ᴄʜᴇᴀᴛɪɴɢ on me with our mutual supervisor, and I ended our relationship. Long story short, things got pretty ugly, and the two of us ended up in a very unpleasant court dispute over property.
Canberra is a small city, and the legal world is even smaller, so I ran into my ex everywhere I went. It was beginning to get to me (and her), so I applied for an Australian government overseas development job in Tuvalu, a Pacific island with a population of around 11,000 people. It’s a very coveted job to get, with only two places available for a two-year contract on a rotating basis.
I was successful in my application and moved to the island to begin my assignment. To find out that my ex was the other successful applicant. I spent the next two years sharing a tiny office on a little island with the person I truly despise more than anyone else in the world. © larriedbutmooking / Reddit
Story 10
Years ago, my company was on the verge of failure, so I began seeking for new opportunities. I accepted a position with another company and completed my two weeks with my manager.
Me: “I’ve been offered another job, and I’m taking it. I’m putting in my notice.”
Manager: “Oh, well, we hate to lose you. Do you mind me asking where you will be going?”
Me: “I’m going to [company].”
Manager: “No…”
Me: “…”
Manager: “I applied for that position too.”
Me: “I’m sorry to tell you that you didn’t get it.” © Contorto103 / Reddit
Story 11
I was getting late for a flight and hadn’t checked in. When I arrived at the airport, I discovered that I had gone to the wrong one.
I had to go around 30 minutes to the other airport. I went to check-in around 20 minutes before my flight. They didn’t have any seats, so they upgraded me to business class. The best flight of my life thus far. © Unknown author / Reddit
Story 12
My girlfriend of two years relocated a few hours away to attend school. We see each other on most weekends. We spent the weekend before Valentine’s Day together, which was amazing.
The following weekend, on Valentine’s Day, I visit her at her parents’ home. As I approach the house, I notice through the window that she and her fiancé are showing her parents an engagement ring. They married, then 6 years later she discovered his previous wife and children. © thecultcanburn / Reddit
Story 13
My wife and I have been married seven years. We appear to have the ideal life: a decent job, a comfortable home, and a large circle of friends. It all began some months ago.
My wife began staying late at work and hiding her mobile phone. Then I accidently discovered messages from a man on her phone. They were romantic. I also discovered several photographs of my wife with him. My heart was racing like crazy. But I told her everything.
She was sh0cked. It turned out that this guy was a therapist she had been seeing for personal concerns. My wife stated that she had developed affections for him and that their connection had progressed beyond professional boundaries. She told me everything was ended and that she wanted to work on our marriage.
I am at a crossroads right now. On the one hand, I want to leave because I feel deceived and cannot trust my partner longer. On the other hand, I’m considering trying to repair our friendship, especially given her willingness to seek therapy and genuine contrition. © bogotabombshell / Reddit
Story 14
I was on a bus, gazing at my smartphone. I wore a baseball cap and a hoodie. A woman in her fifties strolled in. She pushed me and said, “Hey, don’t you want to give up your seat for a woman?!”
I simply removed my baseball cap and inquired, “What’s the matter, daughter, are you tired?” I’ve never understood why she then strolled silently to the back of the cabin. Maybe she was embarrassed by my smartphone, which my adult grandchildren gave me on my anniversary? © SITUATION / VK
Probably many of us have some amusing stories at school. Here are some anecdotes about teachers who showed their students the true meaning of kindness.
