4-Year-Old Girl Saved The Life Of Her Mother, She Called The Emergency Services When Her Mother Became Unconscious

Aimee Hamer, 40, is a mother from Walesby, England. Her daughter Daisy Dahmer, 5, is one of her four daughters. Due to a medical problem, Aimee occasionally loses consciousness.

On May 23, 2022, was one of those occasions. Aimee opted to bring her toddler to bed with her as she wasn’t feeling well. Daisy, her daughter, was using the phone that Aimee had given her to view YouTube videos, but Daisy ended up calling 999 with it.

Daisy was not getting a response from her mother, so she called the emergency services. Aimee’s cardiac problem could potentially result in fainting as the symptoms worsen. The mother of four had instructed her kids to dial 999 in such circumstances.

Daisy was able to get in touch with emergency personnel and respond to their inquiries. She had been assisted by the responder in giving her mother CPR until the paramedics showed up.

After the responder opened the phone call for Daisy, she said, “Mommy’s not breathing.”

Then she was instructed to tilt her mother’s head back, and perform CPR, until the paramedics arrived, and she took help from her two-year-old sister, Molly.

Aimee had stated, “I taught Daisy and my other children the phonetic alphabet by making a rhyme out of our postcode to make it fun and memorable. […] The kids were never on their own with me as my husband was there to call 999, but Daisy would always get involved by fetching me a cushion and blanket.”

The mother was aware of her situation, and knew that something like this would happen some day when her husband was not at home. so her children needed to be prepared. She had taught her children well, and advised them to call the emergency services, and do not be afraid.

But even though she had prepared her children, she is amazed with the calmness of her daughter, Daisy, in the situation she was in.

“Daisy is amazing and so grown up for her age. After what happened, Daisy has decided that she wants to become either a paramedic or a surgeon when she is older.” Aimee said.

After Daisy saved her mother’s life, East Midlands Ambulance Service shared from their Facebook page that in December 2023, Daisy received a bravery award from EMAS, at her school.

The emergency responders who arrived at the scene, and saved Aimee’s life, had praised Daisy. Phillip Rowe, Paramedic, stated that it is a rare thing to see someone that young to be that confident, and provide the necessary details in that age.

Daisy had helped the paramedics with locating her house, and giving them information about her mother, when they arrived. Rowe said that they “administered oxygen” to Aimee, and she was awakened. Then they proceeded to the hospital.

“It’s been quite an honor to be able to present Daisy with her award today.” Solo response paramedic Jenny Paling said.
