A man suspects his wife of infidelity and sets hidden cameras throughout the home to capture her red-handed. What he discovers in the end far exceeds his greatest expectations.
“Will you, for God’s sake, at least respond, Victoria? I’m asking you a question, and you’re acting as if you don’t understand anything!” Sam snapped at his wife as they were seated at the dinner table.
“Well, Sam,” Victoria said, obscuring her rage and cutting the meat from her plate. “It would be better if you lowered your voice a little. Kathy and Arthur slept just a while back, and I don’t want them to wake up to their parents fighting like a pack of wolves!”
“I DON’T FREAKING CARE, Victoria,” Sam retorted. “This bloody silence is getting on my nerves. Every day it’s become like the same story. You don’t even ask how my day was anymore, and if I try to talk to you, you just give me a vague response and go to bed! Are you fed up with this relationship? If so, just let me know because I’m tired as well!”
“Calm the hell down, Sam! It’s just that I have a lot of work to do at home and I’m exhausted at the end of the day. Most of the time, I’m just thinking about how I’m going to finish the next day’s work, and you know how the workload has grown, especially since Kathy was born!”
“Oh, come on, Victoria! Don’t give me those stupid excuses. You are not the only mother and wife on the planet who is responsible for housework! I can see you don’t give a damn about anything I say or do.”
“Well, Sam, if you’re wondering whether we can go out this weekend, the answer is no! And if you have anything else to say, I’m sorry, but I don’t have the energy to talk right now,” she said as she got up and left.
This was the third month in a row that Sam and Victoria had a rough relationship. They had been a happy married couple for the most of their marriage, but things began to unravel after the birth of their second child, Kathy.
Victoria no longer inquired about Sam’s daily activities and frequently disregarded him. She also appeared to be more concerned about her health and figure, leaving for the gym early in the morning while Sam was still sleeping, returning home only to prepare breakfast for the kids and him, and then going for a shower after everyone had left the house.
Sam began to suspect Victoria of ᴄʜᴇᴀᴛɪɴɢ on him when she became disinterested in their relationship and focused more on herself. Despite his reservations, he checked her phone one day when she was sleeping and discovered that she had been calling an unknown number every day for about a week.
At that point, his mind rushed back to occasions when he got home from work to find their bed in disorder. Has she really been bringing a man into our home? Is she involved in an ᴀғғᴀɪʀ?
Sam paused when he saw the number. But he couldn’t ᴀᴄᴄᴜsᴇ her of infidelity until he caught her red-handed. So, while Victoria was out with the kids one weekend, he set up covert cameras in their bedroom, kitchen, and living room to keep a watch on her.
As the weekday approached, Sam resumed his customary routine. He ate breakfast at 7 a.m., dropped the kids off at school at 8, and instead of heading to work, he pulled over to a park and sat in his car, watching the camera’s video stream.
For the first few hours, Victoria was seen cleaning, cooking, and doing dishes around the house. Then she walks out of the house for a bit and returns with a bag of groceries, indicating that she went grocery shopping.
She walks to Kathy’s room, takes the box in which Kathy keeps her toys, and sits in the living room for a bit as she organizes them. When Arthur gets home a few hours later, she prepares his lunch, serves him, washes the dishes, and then watches TV for a while.
Was it wrong of me to have my reservations about her? Was she only occupied with cleaning all day? Sam sighed and thought. But then he realized something unusual.
Victoria phones someone before going to Arthur’s room. A few minutes later, their neighbor’s son Alex comes, and Victoria sends Arthur outside to play with them. She then goes to her room, calls someone, and talks for about 30 minutes. A few minutes later, she shuts out all of the lights in the room and leaves the bedroom door slightly open.
Sam’s gaze remained riveted on the screen, confident that the man would enter gently through the door and ultimately catch his wife sleeping with him. But after 20 minutes, nothing happened.
Sam was ready to close his laptop because he thought he was overthinking his wife, but then the door opens and Victoria’s face glows brilliantly in the camera – she was using her phone. She glances at the door, smiles, and motions for the person at the door to enter.
Sam covered his mouth in surprise as he watched Kathy enter the room with her school bag and turn on the lights. She rushes to Victoria’s bedside and hugs her firmly, which explains why the bed was usually a mess. Victoria kisses her on the cheek, and the two swiftly leave the room.
Despite what he saw, Sam refused to believe his wife wasn’t cheating on him. He reasoned that the man will most likely come Victoria another day.
So for over a week, he stopped by the park every day, watching the video feed in his car, hoping to catch his wife red-handed, but nothing happened.
In the end, he realized he had been doubting his wife for no apparent reason. So, when he arrived home that day, he purchased her a bouquet of her favorite flowers and apologized for lashing out.
He also disclosed that he had installed cameras in the house, and the two of them had a mature conversation about it, during which Victoria revealed that she had been chatting to her friend Samantha every day because she was moving into their neighborhood the next month.
Sam resolved that he would never mistrust his wife again after that day, and he also hired a maid to help her around the house.
Victoria initially found it difficult to forgive Sam, but she eventually accepted that things could have gone out differently if she had tried to express her dilemma more properly. So, after a short length of time, she simply let it go and forgives him.
Sam now assists her with housekeeping on weekends, and they have time for each other and communicate efficiently to avoid misunderstandings.
What can we learn from this story?
Communication is vital. If Sam and Victoria had sat patiently and discussed their difficulties, things would not have gotten to the point where Sam felt compelled to put cameras throughout the house.
Trust is really crucial in partnerships. Sam knew he had been foolish in doubting his wife. He should have trusted her more in the first place.
