A patient suffering from delusions believed he was a grain of wheat.
Because of that, he was terrified of chickens — every time he saw one, he would panic and try to run away.
After several months of treatment, the doctors finally managed to calm him down. Before discharging him, the doctor called him in for one last check.
— You know who you are now, right?
The patient nodded confidently.
— Yes, I do. I’m a human being, not a grain of wheat anymore.
The doctor smiled, satisfied.
— Excellent. That means you’re fully recovered.
The man stood up and headed for the door. But just as he was about to leave, he hesitated, then turned back, looking a bit uneasy.
— Doctor…
— Yes?
He lowered his voice.
— I know that… but I’m just worried the chickens don’t know it.
