At dinner, a little boy was asked to lead the family prayer.
“But I don’t know how to pray,” he said.
His mother smiled.
“Just pray for your family, your friends, your neighbors, the poor… you know, people who need blessings.”
“Okay,” the boy said.
He folded his hands and began.
“Dear Lord, thank You for our visitors and their children, who ate all my cookies and ice cream.”
Everyone smiled.
“Please bless them… so they won’t come back again.”
The smiles disappeared.
“Please forgive our neighbor’s son, who took my sister’s clothes and wrestled with her on her bed.”
The entire table went silent.
“And this Christmas, please send clothes to all the poor, naked ladies I saw on Daddy’s phone.”
Dad suddenly stopped chewing.
“And please provide shelter for all the homeless men who use Mom’s room when Daddy is at work.”
“Amen.”
Nobody moved.
The little boy looked around proudly.
“Did I pray correctly?”
Mom smiled nervously.
Dad suddenly found his dinner very interesting.
And Grandma quietly whispered,
“Somebody better start explaining…”
