Golden retriever Rio gave birth to nine healthy puppies this summer. But one of them looked a little different to the rest of his siblings.
Her owners couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw that one of the puppies had green fur.
It’s extremely unusual – but it has happened before. Puppies can sometimes have green fur when they are born.
What then might be the reason for this unusual phenomenon? According to German scientists, it might be because the puppies were exposed to biliverdin, a green pigment produced in the placenta that is associated with bile. Strange as it may sound, this pigment can occasionally give puppies a brief green tint at birth.
When Louise Sutherland initially saw Rio’s green fur, she was taken aback by her surprise emerald-colored puppy and couldn’t believe what she was seeing. “We were in shock,” she remarked to The Sun. The green puppy’s story swiftly went viral and won people over all over the world.
However, the color doesn’t last forever. After a few days and many baths from mom, the color began to fade. It didn’t take long before the green puppy looked just like his siblings.
However, Louise didn’t care about that. She had already developed a unique relationship with him and had chosen to name him Forest in honor of his remarkable beginning in life.
What would it be like to own a green puppy? It’s a really amazing and really adorable sight. Let’s all wish Forest the very best on his life’s adventure! Spread the word about this cute green fur ball’s individuality and happiness by sharing it with others.
