Potatoes are unquestionably essential components in our kitchens, and their delightful versatility is matched by a wealth of nutrients, including B vitamins, phosphorus, magnesium, and potassium.
Not many are aware that growing potatoes in pots is achievable even without a sizable vegetable garden. Follow the step-by-step instructions below to ensure you always have your own potato plant readily available.
Acquire potatoes specifically meant for planting; these can be obtained at any nursery or specialized store. These potatoes differ from the ones found in supermarkets as they are specifically designed for cultivation.
You will also need a sufficiently large pot and some soil.
Place the potatoes in a container, spacing them a few centimeters apart, with the “eye” (a distinctive spot at the potato’s tip) facing upward. Store them in a cool location and monitor for any emerging sprouts.
After the sprouts have developed, cut the potato into pieces and plant them in a pot filled with soil, reaching a height of approximately 40 centimeters. Ensure that a portion of the potato remains on the surface.
Water regularly, potatoes prefer moist soil, but always avoid stagnation.
When the leaves of the plant turn yellow it means that the potatoes can be dug up and harvested. Wash them well before using them.
