While we are all destined to encounter bugs of some kind in our homes at certain times of the year, there are some creepy crawlies that the majority of us can live without.
If you live in a rural region, you’re probably used to flies, ants, spiders, and other insects taking up residence – or attempting to do so – in your home over the summer and beyond.
Some people are unaffected by the annual bug invasion, while others are less, shall we say, tolerant of the concept. I can live with spiders spinning webs in my corners, and the occasional fly buzzing about the kitchen won’t spoil my day.
You’ve almost likely seen an earwig in your home, even if you didn’t realize what it was. The reality is, these little insects are as far from cute as you can get, but despite their appearance, they are perfectly safe.
However, most people dislike having a horde of earwigs crawling around their home. I certainly do, which is why I found one particular method for dealing with them so handy.
Alicia Alexander, a Facebook user, explained the tried-and-true method she used to get rid of an earwig infestation, which I believe may be of interest to others.
According to Alicia, filling a small basin with half a cup of olive oil and placing it in your backyard or on your deck is an effective approach to trap earwigs.
The image below apparently depicts how many earwigs Alicia had managed to amass in less than 24 hours:
And here’s that same bowl after 36 hours…
What They Mean
We don’t want to scare you, but the appearance of unusually large numbers of earwigs in your home may signify rotten timber. Earwigs are among the many insects drawn to wood rot, so check any wooden structures in your home.
