Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024, at his home in Plains, Georgia. Surrounded by family, the beloved leader was 100 years old, making him the longest-lived president in U.S. history.

The recipient of the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize is survived by his four children—Jack, Chip, Jeff, and Amy—as well as 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in de:a:th by his wife, Rosalynn, who passed earlier, and one grandchild. His passing marks the end of a remarkable life dedicated to peace, human rights, and service to humanity.

In a heartfelt tribute, Carter’s son Chip reflected on his father’s profound influence:

“My father was a hero, not only to me but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights, and unselfish love. My brothers, sister, and I shared him with the rest of the world through these common beliefs. The world is our family because of the way he brought people together, and we thank you for honoring his memory by continuing to live these shared beliefs.”

Public observances to honor life and legacy of the former president will be held in Atlanta and Washington, D.C., followed by a private interment in Plains, Georgia. Details of the state funeral, including motorcade routes and events, will be released by the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region.
