6-year-old Harrison Humphries dreams of becoming a detective or a police chief.
Luckily for him, he’s found the perfect mentor in a local police officer.
As young as he is, Harrison already knows what he wants to do in life, thanks in part to the friendship he has formed with Officer Rolf Seiferheld of Duluth, Iowa.
The boy was born without arms, but his disability doesn’t stop him from living a normal life and dreaming big.
His parents were told that Harrison wouldn’t be able to walk, feed himself, and do anything, but this brave lad defied the odds. He uses his feet to do everything, including dressing himself, brushing his teeth, and fixing his hair.
He’s only 6 years old, but he’s positive about his future career path, thanks in part to his special relationship with a local police officer in Duluth, Iowa. The fact that Harrison was born without arms doesn’t even factor into his future plans!
The little boy first met Officer Rolf Seiferheld while the cop was out on patrol in Duluth a few months ago. Harrison struck up a conversation with the officer and told him how he dreams of being a cop someday, too.
Tara was immediately struck by the fact that Rolf never treated Harrison differently.
Instead, he interacted with him like any other curious child!
“Not many people will take the time or sometimes they’re scared,” Tara said.
Now, every Friday night, Harrison joins his mentor on patrol and it’s been the highlight of the week for both of them. Rolf always took the time to show the boy his tools and leave him behind the wheel of his patrol car, and Harrison helped him keep his equipment in good shape.
The child believes he is Rolf’s partner, and Rolf encourages his goal to be in law enforcement.
After all, the two of them shared a common philosophy about police work. “Let’s make people better,” says Harrison.
Rolf agrees: “Be kind and treat people the way you want to be treated. Show them the respect they deserve.”
Tara is sure that with Rolf’s help and encouragement, her son will truly fulfill his dream of becoming a policeman one day. He definitely has a good role model to follow!
