Getting divorced is never easy, no matter how troubled the marriage was. The entire legal process is exhausting — from dividing assets and possibly fighting over custody, to the emotional and financial toll it takes.
One evening, as Barbra was making dinner, Mike — always fixated on appearances — casually set his car keys on the counter and told her they needed to talk. She immediately knew what was coming. Sure enough, within seconds, he asked for a divorce.
What he didn’t expect was her calm response. Barbra agreed without hesitation.

He had braced himself for begging, tears, maybe even a breakdown. But Barbra showed no emotion. Despite how hurt she felt deep down, she kept her composure and stayed cool.
In the days that followed, the two barely exchanged words until they found themselves across from one another in a sterile conference room, each with a lawyer at their side.
Mike began listing what he wanted — the house, the car, the savings — as if he were reciting items from a shopping list.
Barbra listened silently, then told him he could have it all.

Her lawyer looked at her in disbelief, but she reassured him.
All she wanted were her personal items and to get the divorce finalized.
Laughing smugly, Mike told her to collect her things and be out of “his” house by that afternoon.
Barbra left the building and stepped into the elevator.
As soon as the doors closed, she burst into laughter — not out of despair, but because she had been waiting for this moment. She pulled out her phone and texted,
“Mom, get ready for my sweet revenge.”

Barbra’s mother had never liked Mike. From the beginning, she saw right through him — a self-centered man who only cared about his own image.
The two never got along, and she had always warned Barbra he wasn’t the right one.
Years earlier, when Barbra and Mike bought their house, her mother had helped them with the down payment.
Mike thought he had struck gold, not realizing that help came with a legal string attached — one that would now unravel his so-called victory.
The day Barbra packed up and moved into a modest apartment nearby, she received a call from Mike. Putting him on speaker, she leaned back and savored her toast — and the moment.
Mike was livid. Barbra’s mom had moved into the house and was refusing to leave.

Smiling, Barbra reminded him of the agreement he had signed when her mother helped them buy the house.
In the fine print, it clearly stated she had the right to live there whenever she wished, for as long as she liked.
As Barbra chuckled in triumph, she heard her mother in the background telling Mike to turn off the TV.
She knew exactly how to push his buttons — and now, she had a front-row seat to his unraveling.
