My Neighbor Told Me to Stop Running Because Her Son Kept Watching Me

It seems like that running is a daily reset for our reader — fresh air, a clear mind, and no drama. In addition, she knew her neighborhood inside out. But one evening, her neighbor made a bizarre comment about her running outfit that shook her. Now, she’s wondering whether she even wants to put on her running shoes again.

She sent us a message.

For illustrative purpose only.

Hi,

I love going for runs around my neighborhood. Yesterday evening, as I was heading home, I bumped into my neighbor. She waved me over to her yard, so I thought she wanted to chat.

But instead, she said, “You really shouldn’t be running around here. You’re big-che:sted, and those tight-fitting clothes are distracting my son.” I asked how old he was, and just then, her son came out of the house and saw me. He suddenly turned red and ran quickly back in. He looked about 16.

My neighbor shook her head and told me, “This isn’t the kind of attention you want.” I didn’t know what to say. I felt so embarrassed that I just apologized and hurried home. Now, I can’t stop feeling self-conscious about going for my runs.

What do you think I should do about this?
