Prince George’s birthday tradition is something Prince William struggles with

The Prince and Princess of Wales are always determined to make birthdays memorable in their household, but Prince William struggles with one tradition.

Prince George will turn 11 on Monday, so the Prince and Princess of Wales are likely planning to make his birthday extra memorable.

Although Princess Kate has previously revealed some of the couple’s family rituals, one was established by William’s late mother, Princess Diana, when he was a child.

In terms of gifts, Julia Samuel, one of Prince George’s godparents, stated that she used to give the young prince “impossible toys that are really noisy and take a lot of making” – something Prince William struggled with.

According to the Mirror, Ms Samuel stated, “I do to George what [Diana] did to us, which is give impossible toys that are really noisy and take a lot of making.

“William then has to spend days putting them together. And then put all the machinery together, and it makes awful tooting noises and lights flashing and all of that.”

She went on to say that while William spends days putting together the tricky toys, the rest of the family enjoys seeing him squirm, including “cheeky” George. She stated that it “makes [her] laugh, and it makes George laugh.”

Julia previously appeared as a guest on the podcast How to Fail with Elizabeth Day, where she praised her young godson, who was born on July 22, 2013, as “amazing”.

She added; “He’s funny and feisty and cheeky and God she [Diana] would have loved him so much. That is heartbreaking for all of them.”

William has previously stated that he tries everything he can to ensure that his children know about their late grandma, who died in 1997.

Prince George was born in July 2013

During an interview in the 2017 ITV documentary ‘Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy’, William stated, “So we’ve got more photos up round the house now of her and we talk about her a bit and stuff.”

The Princess of Wales recently disclosed that she has her special custom for each of her three children’s birthdays: she stays up late the night before to create a baked cake.

In 2019, Kate appeared on Mary Berry’s A Berry Royal Christmas and said that she bakes till midnight on the eve of her children’s birthdays.

She said: “I love making the cake. It’s become a bit of a tradition that I stay up ‘til midnight with ridiculous amounts of cake mix and icing and I make far too much. But I love it.”
