Actress Shannen Doherty and photographer Kurt Iswarienko began their relationship in 2008 and married on October 15, 2011, in an intimate ceremony in Malibu, California, which was featured on Doherty’s We TV docuseries “Shannen Says.”
Throughout their marriage, Doherty frequently expressed her gratitude and affection for Iswarienko on social media, often calling him her “best friend” and acknowledging his crucial support, particularly during her battle with ca:ncer.
Despite this, Doherty filed for divorce on April 21, 2023, after 11 years of marriage. The divorce filing, which came amid reports of separation since January 2023, was influenced by ongoing tensions and difficulties, including Doherty’s deteriorating health. Her representative noted that divorce was not Doherty’s preferred outcome but felt she had no other choice.
The couple, who did not have children, faced a contentious separation, with Doherty seeking spousal support despite there being no prenuptial agreement. Just before the divorce became public, Doherty shared a cryptic Instagram message about being treated right by those who truly belong in one’s life.
The actress’s third marriage, following her previous marriages to Ashley Hamilton and Rick Salomon, ended as she continued to fight stage 4 cancer, first diagnosed in 2015. Doherty had previously shared her journey openly and returned to work despite her condition.
Tragically, Doherty’s battle with ca:ncer came to an end on July 13, 2024, at age 53. During her illness, she faced financial disputes with Iswarienko over spousal support and other financial matters. Doherty claimed that Iswarienko was delaying their divorce proceedings in hopes she would die before he was required to settle financial obligations.
However, Iswarienko’s attorney disputed these claims, stating that a settlement offer was made but refused by Doherty. The actress sought significant spousal support due to decreased income and legal fees. Despite the complications, Doherty remained a source of inspiration to many through her strength and perseverance until her passing.
