In the glittering world of show business, a few stars shine so uniquely that their light never fades. Lyn May, one of Mexico’s most iconic entertainers, is among those unforgettable figures. Her journey is filled with triumphs, trials, and surprising twists which reads like a movie few could have imagined.
From Acapulco to the Spotlight
Born Lilia Guadalupe Mendiola Mayares in 1952 in Acapulco, Lyn May has both Chinese and Mexican heritage. From an early age, she worked tirelessly to support her family first selling souvenirs to tourists, then waiting tables. During this time, she met an American sailor, with whom she shared several years of her life and had two children.
After their separation, Lyn returned to Acapulco and began pursuing dance. Despite lacking formal training, her natural charisma and energy quickly caught attention, paving her way into entertainment.
A Meteoric Rise

Lyn May first captivated audiences on television, especially through the popular Latin American show “Siempre en Domingo.” Her growing fame drew the interest of Enrique Lombardini, the owner of Teatro Esperanza Iris, who invited her to perform in his burlesque productions.
Though hesitant at first, Lyn eventually embraced the stage persona that would make her legendary. Her beauty, sensuality, and lively presence earned her the nickname “The Goddess of Love.” Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, she became a defining face of Mexican “Ficheras” cinema – a comedy genre deeply rooted in popular culture.
Glamour, Grit, and Transformation
As the “Ficheras” era faded, Lyn reinvented herself yet again. She appeared in numerous TV shows, documentaries, and music videos, maintaining her fame with her bold personality and unfiltered honesty.
Her personal life was equally eventful. She spent many years with Antonio Chi Su, a businessman with whom she ran a restaurant in Mexico City. After his passing, she later married producer Guillermo Calderón Stell, remaining with him until 2018.
A Surprising Announcement

In 2021, Lyn stunned the world by claiming she was pregnant at 68 with her fiancé, singer Markos D1. The announcement went viral – sparking both celebration and disbelief. Later, Lyn shared it was a publicity stunt to enhance her farewell tour. The episode once again proved her flair for showmanship and her instinct for staying in the spotlight.
Turning Scars into Strength
Lyn May has always valued her appearance and underwent various cosmetic procedures to maintain her glamour. However, in the early 1990s, a botched treatment left lasting damage to her face. Instead of retreating, she selected to face the public with courage – turning her scars into a symbol of resilience and self-acceptance.
A Star Who Never Fades
Today, Lyn May keeps active in the entertainment world, admired for her fearless spirit and undying energy. Her fans continue to follow her not only for her artistry but for her bold authenticity.
From a souvenir seller on the beaches of Acapulco to a legend of Mexican pop culture, Lyn May has lived a life as dazzling as the spotlight she commands. Beneath the glitz and sensational headlines lies a story of determination, passion, and pride in her roots.
