Everyone in the local parish knew Mildred. She was the self-appointed moral guardian of the neighborhood, which was really just a fancy way of saying she was an incurable gossip who loved judging everyone else’s business.
One afternoon, Mildred spotted Frank’s pickup truck parked directly outside the town’s only dive bar. Delighted by the scandal, she immediately took photos and broadcasted them to the entire congregation, announcing, “Well, now we all know exactly what Frank is doing with his free time!”
Frank heard about her rumors, but he didn’t argue. He didn’t defend himself. He didn’t say a single word.
Instead, late that night, Frank quietly drove his pickup truck over to Mildred’s neighborhood, parked it directly in her driveway—right under her front window—turned off the engine, and walked home. He left it sitting there all night long.
By sunrise, the entire town had a brand-new scandal to whisper about.
