The Cost of Production

Six-year-old Sylvie came home from school after her very first lesson about how babies are made.

Her curious mother smiled and asked, “How did the class go, darling?”

Sylvie shrugged and replied, “Well, Paul said his dad bought him from an orphanage. Aline said her parents imported her from another country. Christine said she was custom-made in a laboratory, and Jean said his two dads paid a woman to carry him in her belly.”

Her mother chuckled and asked, “And what did you tell them?”

“Nothing,” Sylvie sighed, looking down. “I was too embarrassed to tell them that my mommy and daddy were so poor, they had to make me themselves!”
