Albert Einstein’s driver had heard the famous professor give the same lecture so many times that he could practically recite it in his sleep.
After about the 50th lecture, the driver finally joked,
“Professor, I’ve heard that speech so many times, I could give it myself!”
Einstein laughed.
“Really? Then let’s test that theory.”
The next time they visited another town, Einstein said,
“Why don’t we switch places? Nobody here has seen me before.”
So the driver put on Einstein’s clothes and walked onto the stage.
Einstein sat quietly in the back.
To everyone’s amazement, the driver delivered the entire lecture perfectly.
Every explanation.
Every formula.
Every dramatic pause.
The audience applauded enthusiastically.
Then, just as the driver was about to leave, a professor stood up.
“I have a very difficult mathematical question for you.”
The driver paused.
The room went silent.
Einstein watched nervously from the back.
Then the driver smiled confidently.
“Professor, that question is so ridiculously simple…”
“I’m surprised you even asked it.”
The audience murmured in admiration.
The driver continued,
“In fact, it’s so simple that…”
He pointed toward the back of the room.
“Even my driver sitting back there can answer it!”
The room erupted in laughter.
Einstein simply covered his face.
The driver walked off the stage like a genius.
And Einstein learned an important lesson:
Sometimes the smartest move is knowing when to hand the problem to someone else.
