‘The whole situation is just very sad’: Prince Harry and Prince William considering rival documentaries to mark major Princess Diana anniversary

Prince William may soon feel the need to publicly respond to Prince Harry, amid speculation that the Duke of Sussex is planning to benefit from the upcoming anniversary of Princess Diana’s d:eath.

This week marks 28 years since Diana’s tragic passing. She was just 36 years old when she di:ed in a car crash in a Paris tunnel on the night of August 31, 1997. The accident also took the lives of her partner, Dodi Fayed, and their driver, Henri Paul.

Her passing sent shockwaves around the globe and left her sons, William and Harry—then just 15 and 12—grieving the sudden loss of their beloved mother.

Harry’s Reported Documentary Plans

As per the Daily Beast, Harry’s Archewell production company has been in discussions about producing a documentary on Diana to coincide with the 30th anniversary of her passing in 2027.

“Harry is looking to do a series about Diana in 2027,” a source revealed.

“They want to get the right partners and we have had a conversation with them. I’m sure other production companies have too.

“An inside account of the implosion of Charles and Diana’s marriage, and Harry’s story of Diana’s d:ea:th and its aftermath would be the TV sensation of all time.”

William’s Different Approach

Both brothers appeared in a 2017 documentary marking the 20th anniversary of Diana’s death, back when Harry was still a working royal.

But per another insider, William had intended for that project to be his “final word” on his mother’s passing.

Now, speculation that Harry may return to the subject with a major Netflix production could put William in a difficult position.

“If Harry is now going to do another massive Netflix show effectively claiming her legacy, William will have to fight back, whether that’s with an interview or a documentary of his own,” the source explained. “The whole situation is just very sad.”

In spite of their deep rift, Diana’s legacy has remained one of the few forces to bring the brothers together.

In July 2021, William and Harry reunited to unveil a statue of their mother in the Sunken Garden of Kensington Palace. The joint event came only months after the Sussexes’ explosive Oprah Winfrey interview, which heavily criticized the royal family.
