How to dry clothes quickly in winter? This article will reveal a simple, economical and time-saving solution.
Clothes find it difficult to dry especially in winter. Why? The days are shorter, the hours of sunshine are shorter and less intense, there is more humidity and the clothes are made of heavier fabrics. So, anyone who doesn’t have a tumble dryer is in trouble. How to fix it? This is the method that will allow you to dry your clothes in a very short time.
How to dry your clothes better
The best way to dry clothes is surely outdoors. If you have space and sunlight available, use them as much as possible to dry your clothes. In winter, however, air-drying can be more difficult, thanks to the weather conditions and the weight of the laundry fabrics. If you have a tumble dryer, that’s it and in no time at all your clothes will be completely dry.
However, there is a foolproof method to get your clothes dry in no time, whatever the weather conditions.
The process starts from the washing machine. First of all, you should start a washing programme that includes a spin cycle at high revolutions, in order to remove as much excess water as possible.
Start washing
Once you have finished washing, open the door of the washing machine and place a clean towel between the still damp clothes. One will be enough for a half load, two towels will be needed for a full load. Then close the door and start the spin programme.
The towel method
The clean towel in the washing machine will facilitate water removal by absorbing the water itself along with the spin cycle. In fact, when the washing machine has finished, you will notice that the clothes are barely damp. All that remains is to hang the clothes out well, leaving a little distance between them to allow air to pass through and facilitate drying. Again, if possible, spread out in the open air and in the sun. This way, your clothes will dry in just 15 minutes. If this is not possible, you can always hang out at home, perhaps by placing the drying rack in front of a radiator.
There are some garments that cannot be washed in the washing machine but must be washed by hand, such as pure wool jumpers. How to do in this case? The process is simple and you will always need a towel. After washing and wringing out your jumper well, take a clean towel and spread it out on a rack.
Clean towels for drying clothes
Spread the jumper on the towel and begin to roll it up tightly to absorb water residue. Roll the towel all the way up and press well to get all the water out of the jumper. Then unroll the whole thing and arrange to roll out the “handspun” jumper.
Other methods for quick drying
Sometimes it happens that a freshly washed and still wet garment needs to be put on urgently. How to do it? There are a couple of tricks that can help when added to the methods described above. As a first solution, it is possible to iron our garment inside out, putting the iron at low temperature and without steam. The heat of the iron will dry but also obviously iron and stretch the fibres of the fabric, favouring the drying process.
Ironing damp clothes
Turn the garment inside out and iron it right side out, then hang it on a hanger for 10 minutes. If necessary, iron it one last time for perfect drying.
A valid alternative to dry a garment quickly is to use a hair dryer. It should be used at a distance of at least 50 cm to avoid damaging the fabric. With this method it will be possible to dry even pure wool jumpers without the risk of damaging them.
